Martin Guitar Technical Reference, Book 2
|
Review Date: July 15, 2010
Reviewer: Michael S. Jackson, South Weber, Utah
Fantastic book! Whereas Book 1 was a history of the company, Book 2 is the perfect follow up by describing Martin products in great detail, often cross referencing to Book 1. Of particular value is the complete listing of serial numbers, models, and manufacturing quantities. Beautifully illustrated. Highly recommended book for those who have owned and appreciated Martins for years as well as those who are planning on buying one - as a matter of fact, I suggest reading this book before buying so you will get the model you really want. You won't find all the models listed in one place as they are here; even much better than the Martin web site. The serial number, model numbers, production totals, etc. are extremely accurate and up to date (some end in 2005 while others end in 2007). How did Martin keep their necks from warping before going to truss rods (there were several methods)? When did they first go to truss rods and with what model? Just a couple of examples of the information you'll learn from this book. You won't regret buying this book, whether or not you own book 1!
Great Martin Guide

This is a great technical reference guide providing an amazing amount of detailed description and information on Martin instruments from the start of production in the 1800s to 2009. It is the companion book to the company history provided in a separate book. It is clearly written, comprehensive, and very well illustrated. I hope that there will be future editions that capture the continuing evolution of these instruments and maintain the high quality and value provided in this edition.
